I had never ridden a pedal assist until today. Since it was on sale for $380 , I decided to try it. I don’t see any prior reviews now I will try to.go.down to the.nuts and.bolts non this one.
First, I ordered it on May 3rd and it was delivered May 28th. I expected a.longer wait so that was good.

The shipping box was secure and sturdy. The interior box was a hard foam like material that I will keep to store the device in if needed. The unit contains its enclosed battery and a concave roller that fits over the rear tire. There was also a charging unit and 6 seat post adapters ranging from 25.4 to 31.6 mm. There is a clamp on the unit that clamps around the adapter. Installation is quite easy. The only tool necessary is the Allen key supplied to tighten the clamp.

The instructions were well written and complete. Of course, the.attachment and use are simple so the instructions need not be complex.

The unit was partially charged so it is necessary to top it off. There is an app you can download that lets you choose the level of assistance you want, ranging from “fly” which is maximum to “eco” which is least. There are 4 levels of assistance. Per the manual, Fly has a range of 20-25 km and Eco has a range of 70-80 km. I began on Eco but switched up to the next level of “half” for most of my ride.

I ride a six three zero Round the Block beach cruiser. Its a single speed with a coaster brake. I ride for exercise (I’m 77) at an average pace of just under 8 mph. I generally ride about 4.5 miles or so for just over 30 minutes. Today with the pedal assist, I was no faster, although I could have been. Being uncertain of my ability to stop on my first ride, I deliberately slowed down. On straight stretches, I was aware of greater speed with less effort. I will explore that after installing a front brake. As for now, what I noticed most was how it helped with hills. My subdivision has two hills.I could just not handle before. They were still work today but I can handle them. I don’t want to eliminate the physical effort in riding and this did not.

I rode 48 minutes today and more than 6.25 miles. At the end of my ride, I had a satisfying workout in 89 degree deep south weather. I have no doubt the pedal assist allowed for a longer workout with harder climbs.

The manual says the unit kicks in when speed exceeds 5 kph (I think that’s about 2.5 mph), so I found when I stopped at the numerous stop signs, I started again on my own. I don’t have but one straight stretch in my subdivision so I couldn’t test for speed.

So far, there’s nothing not to love. I see it costs more than $100 more now and I don’t know whether I would pay that. I cannot compare it to anything else. I’m sure I will replace a rear tire earlier than I normally would and I suspect inflation levels of that tire are more important than before.

Sorry for being long winded but I wanted to let you gauge whether this might be right for you bases on my experience so far

The media could not be loaded.

I took a chance on getting this, the concept seems legit and i really don’t want to hassle with making huge ebike upgrades..that are complicated.

This is easy to put on in 5 mins! Luckily fits on my fat tire Mongoose Dolomite no problem and works, but it will not take you up hills fast or hardly at all, you still have to pedal your but off and go slowly.

The App doesn’t come up in the android app store and the qr code just sends me a apk download which doesn’t seem to work on my Samsung Fold 4. But it works on my old iphone with no problems.

This is a pedal assistance thing.. not anything like an ebike… if you stop pedaling the thing slows down and only speeds up if you do. I can coast for a little bit longer but it slows down as i do. Again this will not take you up hills (unfortunately)

I feel this product is an unnecessary step into getting a full conversion or an actual ebike.
Put it’s a cheap and FAST solution to get you going in that direction if you want.

The unit itself came far ahead of the expected delivery time, so I will give it an extra start for that.

However, even with the correct sleeve and a laser alignment, the unit consistently de-rails from the tire and the lock can’t go any tighter. Everything is well within the specs this things is supposed to work within.

Also, for the short time it does stay on the tire, when you stop or slow down, the units tire doesn’t. It will then proceed to bounce while stripping it’s rubber off until you lift it off the tire and place it back down.

Lastly, for the short test rides I took it on. I did one ride with the unit on. I then did the same trail with the unit off and I did this 3x on the same trail, for 3 days in a row. I found the unit to make absolutely no difference in my ride time or effort. I was still coming in consistently at 26 minutes on the rides without it and 35 minutes on the rides with the unit (subtracting all the fixing and derailing time of course). I surmised the rest of the difference was me having to get back up to speed from a stopped position each time I fixed the unit. I actually felt a little more tired with the unit, than I did without the unit.

All in all, I wouldn’t say it’s worth nearly the 400$.

I’m now going to try and return the unit since it hasn’t really worked for me at all and we’ll see how well it goes.
